The Flooring Question Answered

Mr. Cracker and I took a trip to Lowe's to look at flooring. We found a beautiful vinyl in copper and verdigris colors. It's about a dollar a square foot. It's cushioned and is not glued down--it's taped at the edges and with a big X in the middle. We also found a pretty Berber carpet on sale that, with pad, will be just over a dollar a square foot. Plus, Lowe's has a special on installation--199$ for the whole house!
We can put in the vinyl pretty easily, and definitely quickly. They can put the carpet in--with a guaranteed 72 hour turn around. And the total will only be about $2500. As soon as we know when the closing will be, we'll order the flooring. I'm so excited!

Closing Getting Closer

Heard from The Realtor yesterday. She said that The Closer told her she had ordered the deed and had it sent to The Seller for a signature. With the holidays, I'm assuming Friday will be the earliest that happens.
So, sometime next week, we will have the house!

Final Inspection

It was windy as all get-out today, but we got the inspection finished. It took both the inspector and Mr. Cracker to figure out the fancy well system. And some things we still don't know, because this was a foreclosure. Like how deep the well is.
In general, everything works, although the list of small things that need to be done is growing longer.

I pulled up a large section of the old carpeting, which must be taken out, and found the padding was see-through in some places! The sub-floor looks to be in good condition. We may just paint and seal the sub-floor and do a "real" floor later when we have more money. Lots of things to figure out, still!

Inspection Time

Last Saturday, we met the inspector, to, of course, have the house inspected. Unfortunately, the listing agent didn't know that there was a second electric pole and so she didn't have that one turned on. The second pole powers the well house, so the inspector was not able to finish the inspection.
He completed as much of the inspection as possible and was able to tell us about some relatively minor things. There are some windows hazed, and sticking doors, and the railings aren't right. The biggest thing is that the roof looks to be original. Mr. Cracker joked that we should get the insurance transferred to this house and then pray for a hail storm! LOL Actually, the roof's not of immediate concern--but it is of short-term concern.
This Saturday, tomorrow, we will meet him at the house again, to finish the inspection. I heard from him earlier and he had been by and verified that everything was on, now.
We will be taking the in-laws with us to look at the house. They've only seen the photos we took. I'm anxious for them to see the place and hope they like it as much as we do.

I also heard from my realtor, right before Christmas, that the contract has been executed (formally signed and accepted by all parties). We still haven't heard who the title company is yet, though, which seems weird.

Watch Out, Wise Co

The Crackers are coming!

The bank accepted our offer today. We have the inspection this weekend. Don't know when the closing will be yet.

And...the Crackers-in-law will be here for Christmas.

Oooh...I'm arranging furniture in my mind right now!
